Tamim Iqbal, the only centurion in T20Is, wants to be back on the T20I team; will BCB allow him a chance?

Tamim Iqbal Khan, the only centurion in T20Is, wants to be back on the T20I team; will the Bangladesh Cricket Board allow him a chance?

Maybe Tamim Iqbal Khan is looking for a chance to be named on the T20I squad for Bangladesh, I think he wants to play in the 2022 ICC Twenty-20 World Cup. But the reality is different and Tamim Iqbal may not get recall on the team as he has been out of the team for more than two years. When the team management and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) wanted him in the team and asked him to play, he stated that he is not available. Why do BCB now take him on?

Tamim Iqbal is the only centurion in the T20 format of cricket in Bangladesh. Although he made a century in the T20Is, he is not an ideal opening batter for a team. It should be mentioned that Tamim Iqbal scored 103 runs in a 2016 T20 World Cup Match against Oman, one of the weaker teams.

Tamim Iqbal has scored 1,057 runs in 78 matches at an average of 24.06. Can it be a good example? Talking about the strike rate, Tamim’s life was poisoned by different types of satires. Criticism was raised in the cricket board and the fans and followers of cricket in Bangladesh. Cricket lovers gave Tamim the name ‘Dot-Baba’ for playing so many dot balls. Dot-Baba is such a batter who plays a lot of dot balls without thinking of the situation of a match.

But Tamim Iqbal has been acting like he is the best batter in Bangladesh and there is no replacement for him. Considering this the left-arm opener seems to have sent himself into exile from this format for the last two years, more than two years actually. This is how Tamim Iqbal, the ODI captain of Bangladesh, practically gave up T20I. He did not take part in the 2021 T20 World Cup. During the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), earlier this year, he wanted a six-month break from the format which is scheduled to end in July. But The BCB has assumed that it will be difficult to return and include him for the T20 World Cup to be held in October-November in Australia.

I think you do not need the proof regarding this matter as Tamim Iqbal’ name is not on the T20 squad of the West Indies tour. However, in the overall course of events, a new melody arrived recently that Tamim wants to play T20Is.

Maybe, Tamim thought that if he declared a break from a single format, the BCB would have requested and brought him back, but the thinking did not work. Now, Tamim wants to express his view regarding his playing in the format but nobody on the board and the team management allows him a chance about this issue. And most importantly, ego is here.

In the recent past, BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon and cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus have said that Tamim is unlikely to return to the T20Is.

Tamim Iqbal, the One-Day International captain, played in T20I format in March in 2020.

But now, according to the opening batter Tamim’s statement to the media, he may have plans to return to T20 cricket but he is struggling to express his wishes.

In my opinion, Tamim Iqbal is a good batter as he is the only Bangladeshi cricketer to score centuries in all three formats of the game of cricket in the international arena and also Bangladesh’s highest century maker in international matches; but he should not be on the T20I squad again.
