The speculation was there before, it came true. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the name of Shakib Al Hasan as the new Test captain of the Bangladesh cricket team and Litton Kumer Das is appointed vice captain. During the second formal meeting of the board on Thursday (June 2), a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), who did not want to be named.

Mominul Haque states that he does not want to be the Test captain and he formally stepped down a few days ago. Since he stepped down as Test captain, all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s name was heard the most that he was going to be appointed as the Test captain for the third time; and after rumours, BCB has given him the responsibility. The Tiger all-rounder is set to captain the Test side for the third time since the upcoming tour of the West Indies.

Mominul Haque got the Test captaincy in 2019 after Shakib was banned. Under his leadership there has been no significant success except a Test win against New Zealand at Mount Manganui. Rather at this time the bat was in his hand as his own shadow. His strong criticism started right after the Sri Lanka series which was ended by himself. On May 31, he informed the BCB president Mr. Nazmul Hassan Papon that he did not want to be the captain anymore. Applauding his decision, the country’s cricket governing body walked the path of the new captain.

Earlier, Shakib got Test captaincy for the first time in 2009 when Mashrafe bin Mortoza was injured. In that period till 2011 he led in 9 Tests and won in one. Then in 2016 Mushfiqur Rahim was replaced by Tiger all-rounder and led in 5 more Tests and won two till he was banned in 2019.

In all, in the previous two terms, Shakib has won 3 out of 11 defeats in 14 Tests.
