No comparison of Bangladesh with Sri Lanka: Planning Minister MA Mannan
Planning Minister MA Mannan has said that Bangladesh cannot be compared with Sri Lanka which is on the verge of bankruptcy due to the economic crisis. He made the remarks in a press conference after a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday.
Sri Lanka, which a decade ago was on the verge of emerging as an upper middle income country, is now on the verge of bankruptcy.
Replying to a question on the recent financial crisis in Sri Lanka, the Planning Minister said, “Our government does not do any unnecessary work or take any unnecessary projects.” However, some quarters are trying to match the current situation in Sri Lanka with Bangladesh, which is not acceptable at all considering the economic and social aspects.
He said, “The economies of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are completely different and the fundamentals of the economy are also different. However, we are paying close attention to the opinions of experts and researchers. I don’t think there is any reason to be apprehensive about the situation in Sri Lanka. “
