Islam is the eternal way of life given by Allah. Among which lies the welfare, peace, liberation of the entire mankind. Starting from Hazrat Adam (a.s.) through the sending of prophets and messengers in different eras, the message of Islam has reached the door of people on earth, which has been fulfilled through Rasulullah (s.a.w.) and Islam has expanded as the only accepted religion in the world. This is why Allah has said in the Holy Qur’an, ‘Surely Islam is the only religion acceptable to Allah.’ (Surah Al-Imran: 19).
Prophets and Messengers faced various challenges to avoid pagan culture and spread the good message of Islam throughout the society. They have been able to establish Islam as a superstition-free and peaceful religion in the society by the great grace of God. However, it is an unpopular fact that in modern times pagan festivals are observed in different ways by the pagans as well as by a section of the Muslim Ummah. Its effect is especially seen among the Muslim youth. For example, social media such as Facebook, Instagram etc. exchange greetings for various festivals including English New Year. In addition, on the night of the Gentile festival, some young people with Muslim names sing, dance, light firecrackers, fly lanterns, or in the streets of different cities. The festival is constantly celebrated by promoting foreign culture with DJ parties and concerts. Even at various times, in the name of celebrating such festivals, one can observe the free movement of numerous boys and girls of the society, through which the door of gender is opened. But Allah gives a warning in this regard and says, ‘And do not even approach adultery. Indeed, it is an indecent act and an evil way.’ (Surah Bani Israel: 32).
Even the activities that are seen in the celebration of different festivals of the heathens, Islam never supports. Bright examples of the currently popular Halloween festival, World Valentine’s Day, Thirty First Night celebration etc. But it is never desirable for a Muslim to participate in such a national festival of heathens. Because Allah the Exalted says, ‘(O Prophet) say: Verily, my Lord has forbidden open and hidden obscenity, sinful acts, unjust and inconsistent rebellion and opposition, and associating partners with God for which God has not sent down any evidence. .’ (Surah Araf: 33).
Besides, Allah created man for obedience to Him and commanded to worship Him alone. As stated in verse 56 of Surah Az-Zariat, ‘I have created jinn and mankind that they may worship Me.’
Even in the hadith nabbi there is a prohibition in this regard. Because a review of the biography of Rasulullah (s.a.w.), the biography of the companions, the biography of the Tabiyyah and the Tabi-Tabayeen, the biography of the four Imams, the biographies of famous Muslim thinkers and the reigns of various Islamic caliphates shows that they never observed any festival compatible with the pagans and supported them. did not The Prophet (PBUH) never gave permission to foster foreign cultures. As Rasulullah (SAW) said, ‘Whoever imitates other nations, he will be considered as one of them.’ (Sunan Abu Dawud: 4031).
Regarding the greetings on the festivals of the infidels, the Ulema of Jamhur expressed their opinion that it is not permissible to greet the infidels on religious and various festivals. Because this violates the principle of ‘commanding good deeds and forbidding bad deeds’ as prescribed by Islam. Besides, it also helps in the spread of Kufr in the society.
Therefore, it is the duty of every Muslim to always avoid foreign culture and keep himself free from it. Besides warning everyone including your children, family, relatives about this festival. Because God Himself said in the Holy Qur’an, ‘O you who believe! Protect yourselves and your families from the fire.’ (Surah Tahreem: 6).
Besides, in order to prevent the present generation from such activities, the education of Islamic values in the society should be ensured at a higher rate. Because, due to the lack of proper Islamic education in the current social system, the Muslim youth community cannot understand the true principles of Islam by heart. As a result, moral turpitude is occurring. But acquiring Islamic education is obligatory. As Rasulullah (SAW) said, ‘Acquiring knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim.’ (Sahih Targhib wat Tahrib: 72).
Therefore we all should avoid festivals and culture in every aspect of life which is not supported by Islam. Building life in the light of Quran and Sunnah. Only then it will be possible to obtain Allah’s pleasure, mercy and welfare in this worldly life, so also in the hereafter it will be possible to obtain the forgiveness of the great Lord.
