Germany and Italy are going to pay the price of gas in rubles

Ruble is the currency of Russia

Germany and Italy have agreed to pay for gas in Russia's own currency, the ruble. To that end, the German and Italian governments have allowed their national gas company to open an account with Russia's Gazprom Bank.

After unprecedented US and Western sanctions against Russia, Russia announced that non-aligned European countries would have to pay in rubles to get gas from the country. Otherwise, gas supply to these countries will be stopped.

In this context, Germany and Italy allowed their national gas company to open an account with Russia's GazpromBank in order to avoid a gas cut off from Russia.

Poland, Bulgaria and Finland have recently refused to pay Russia for gas in rubles.

Ruble

Italy and Germany have decided to pay for gas through GazpromBank after detailed discussions with the European Commission in Brussels, Reuters reported, citing a source. The European Commission, meanwhile, has said it will not lift sanctions if it continues to import gas from Russia under the current agreement. However, he did not say whether opening a ruble account would violate the ban.
